Strange Creatures - The Weird Monster of Manor Road
87Strange animal spotted in Baltimore County.
A strange animal has been reported in northeastern Baltimore County. Again. But this isn’t the Weird Sampson fox or the ugly mini-hyena of Glyndon – it’s a whole new weirdness. Every so often, strange animal sightings crop up, exciting armchair cryptozoologists.
Early on Friday morning February 6, 2009, between midnight and 12:30, Dave Monet and Mike J. were driving toward Baltimore on Manor Road in Baltimore County when the strange creature crossed their path.
“It was about the size of a Labrador retriever,” said Dave. with a shudder.
The beast was high-hipped, its back sloping toward the front. Two long back legs were shaped like those of a dog while the front legs were noticeably shorter. It had a short tail and prominent claws on each foot. The back of its head resembled that of a short-eared dog. Going toward the front of the head, the dog shape gradually changed to that of a pig with a flattened, snout-like nose.
Unperturbed by the car’s approach, despite the high beams, the animal moved forward at a comfortable pace.
“It didn’t move like a dog,” said Mike J. “I’ve never seen anything like it.”
It has been postulated that the animal was a young black bear. Though unusual in the area, black bears have popped up in unlikely places in Maryland – St. Mary’s County, Halethorpe in Baltimore County and on Maryland’s Eastern Shore.
“I’ve seen bears before,” said Dave. “This thing had thinner legs and didn’t walk with a waddle like a bear.”
“Maybe it was a dog,” I suggested during our interview.
Dave laughed. “No way it was a dog. I know what a dog looks like and believe me, this was no dog.”
Dave described the creature to an ‘artist’ sort of like they used to do with criminals before they started up with that program that does it for you and put the artists out of work or reduced them to drawing sketches of people at carnivals. The drawing was modified as Dave watched and he seemed pleased with the result.
“Only it was facing the other way,” he said.

Maybe it was chupcabra!
The Monster Mash
April 15, 2009. A friend of my husband recently spotted a black bear in his back yard in the vacinity of Manor Road, Baltimore County. This has me thinking that the weird creature was a black bear. The two young men who reported the sighting of the 'mystery animal' are yelling 'no way' at the suggestion of a bear. But sometimes, when we see something we do not expect in a place that it should not be or never is...we just don't see what's really there. Sorry boys.
Monster Sighting Often Occur at Night
People often report seeing unusual creatures, especially at night. Sometimes poor vision (due to the darkness) affects the appearance of moving animals. Seeing something you don’t expect (say a bear crossing a street in Baltimore County) may lead you to believe, well, anything.
Reported
sightings of a weird fox-like creature turned out to be a fox with
mange, Close encounters with a mangy fox may be preceded by a terrible
stench. Other reports have been thought to be a weird Sampson fox, that
is a fox with a genetic problem that inhibits the growth of guard
hairs, those long, beautiful hairs that give a normal fox its
distinctive style. People were willing to call the weird foxes
mini-hyenas or some odd hybrid. If you're not sure what you are seeing,
sometimes your brain just makes something up.
The animal
recently seen on Manor road now has a sort of fan club, or ‘group’ on
Facebook. They all it the Pig Dog of Manor Road because of its
similarity to both pig and dog. Maybe it was a ‘monster,’ a genetic
freak like wandered off the island of Doctor Mureau. Maybe it was a
young bear. Maybe it was just an ugly dog.
Maybe someone else has seen this or a similar creature. If so, please leave a comment below.

What the heck...??? How did I miss these? (Probably 'cos I'm still on the trail of Springheel Jack or something?). These creatures sound interesting. Thanks for sharing...update as soon as you can, okay? I'm bookmarking this stuff *done* Nice vids, and I'm off to the hoax-site for a little double-checking. Wow that vid really is nice. (Um, the horse-cat thingy - that one didn't do good stuff for me lol)
I'm originally from Baltimore City, but, have lived in the county since I was eleven and I've never heard of this creature. The only strange legendary Maryland creature I was previously aware of was Chessie.
As far as the possibility of bears in Baltimore County, it wouldn't surprise me anymore, considering the black bear problems they've been having in New Jersey, of all places. The experts are saying that the encroachment of humans on their habitat are making them less fearful of humans, and consequently, they've been attracted to populated areas, especially for the ease of access to the food related items that we set out in our garbage. They're no different than racoons in that regard.
I really enjoyed this post, as I enjoy all things that challenge our preconceptions.
I believe in this odd looking animal I have seen it for myself. it was carring what looked like to be its baby in its mouth by my home in macungie PA.
i think we need to be open minded, if you check the car cop video of the weird looking (coyote) it sure look what was described in the text. And that animnal his clearly not near a coyote, a fox or a dog.
last night(may 2nd) i swear to god i saw that thing walking up Woodlawn Dr. in Rawlings Heights,MD and don't think i'm messing around i'm dead serious it was scary i didn't know what it was
I am a former Ranger/Naturalist, I teach my own Black Bear Program, as it is tru that Balto. Co. has Bears. People view areas with lines, boudaries & maps, Bears and other wildlife just go about their business for food and to explore their vast wilderness. I am also a believer in strange wildlife sightings, and writing a book, titled: "Forestghost". I believe whatever you saw !
We know that there are many animals living in thick woods and forest yet because their habitats are now being swept off by various cause, even those animals which we rarely see come out in the open in search of foods and shelter.
that thing you drew looks like a capybura but its legs are a lil bit longer :)
The sketch looks like an obese Lynx or Bobcat with a snout...but the legs look more bear like.
Hi dolores,
I am sure there are still 100s of 1000s of creatures which are still hiding from men and havent been discovered by now but i dont think a big animal would be hiding .. yes some small bacterias and may be some very small of size of may be rodents about above that.. i dont think so
My sister saw something similar in the mountains in tn. it moved like a dog and was pitch black
we can neveer be too sure of anything in this world of ours.
I have a trail camera picture with what appears to be that same creature on it. Perhaps your son would like to see it. The picture came from a friend of mine and was taken just outside Ottawa, Ontario.

Interesting story. Although at this day and age it seems hard to believe that an undiscovered species still exists specially in place not so remote from civilization. Thanks for sharing :D
